Strategy:
The nature of poverty is multi-dimensional and in Bangladesh it has four main causes: lack of economic opportunities, low human capabilities, disempowerment and high insecurity. The extreme poor in particular lack the power to change their situation themselves for the following broad reasons: social position (social status; ethnic, religious, economic and gender discrimination); human conditions (low/irregular income, lack of education and skills, lack of livelihoods opportunity, no access to working capital, high vulnerability to risks); institutional environment (weak governance and justice, inadequate social security system, exclusive attitude and lack of responsiveness from elites and other stakeholders). In Bangladesh, about half of population live below the national poverty line with the majority living on less than $1 a day. Women are still being oppressed and children abused in Bangladesh. Women remain inferior to Men and under-represented. Poverty and Hunger in Bangladesh is so extreme that about half of the children in Bangladesh are underweight and malnurished. According to FAO, currently about 45% population in Bangladesh are below the poverty level while around 20% are extreme poor. SKS will give attention to implement development intervention for uplifting the extreme poor households from poverty line.

Untouched Harizon community consists of cobbler, sweeper, dome etc still remain socially excluded by other communities. They are the most disadvantaged and isolated community who cannot take part in any social activities. Adivasi people are also excluded from the main stream of development. SKS will give due importance to the voice of the Harizon and Adivasi communities by involving them in the main stream of development.
